I talked of this about a month ago. At the time, I thought it sounded like a great idea. A way to provide incentive for things we just can't seem to get done without external incentive.
...and then I promptly forgot about it. heh.
SO....I re-visited the idea today and decided to put my money where my mouth is. Or where something is. If I'm going to claim to be a proponent of the idea I should really support it, believe in it and buy into it. That is, if I have any goals at all that I have had trouble reaching "the old fashioned way" - on my own. And who doesn't have something that they need to work on (or that they've been working on but just haven't been successful with yet)?
I certainly have a list as long as my arm. I decided it would be best to start with ONE thing though. You know, as a test.
*deep breath*
*really deep breath*
I need to lose weight. Have needed to for almost 4 years now (and it keeps getting worse). I think about it a lot but I just never do anything about it. I decided that is the "goal" that I'm going to apply this strategy to.
It is really a straight-forward process. I sign-up at the site. I tell them my current weight, my goal weight and my goal date. I then tell them how much I'm willing to risk if I don't meet my weekly goals and who I'd like that money to go to if I don't meet my weekly goals. (If I meet my goals, I get all of my money back at the end of the challenge.) Sounds easy, right?
Well, the tough part was deciding who my anti-charity should be! When you're faced with these options....what do you choose??

*shakes head* Seriously.
This was not an easy choice. They have a limited list of anti-charities, but there are enough on there that I should be able to choose one. But when the objective is to select a cause that is completely counter to what you believe in (thereby increasing the incentive...because you certainly don't want your money to go to them), it gets tough! WHO do I feel most opposed to? Take a look at that list. We've got some great options. Who would you choose?
In the end, I chose these people: Americans United for Life. Not only will it absolutely devastate me to send my hard-earned money to them, but I think I'll have a number of friends who'll be on my case to make sure I'm meeting my goals, too!!
..
OKay, I clicked it. We're set. Ready to rock-n-roll. I just gave StickK $400 of my money. I hope to the heavens I can get it all back in a few months. I have to weigh in weekly. For each week that I don't lose 2 pounds, they'll donate $20 of my money to the enemy.

Oh my Gosh! I am SO proud of you doll!
I think your money would be so much better spent on a trip somewhere .. I dunno, a nice cabin by a lake maybe?
Anyway, anything at all that I can do to help you prevent your money being sent their way, then just let me know!
I love you! .. and I know how determined you can be. I know you can do it!
Thank you, dear!!
It'll be a challenge, for sure. But it should be worth it and you KNOW I'll call on your help when I need it! Love you lots!
