Burrow

Yes, I've created a nice little burrow for myself. Right here on my sofa. Fuzzy pajamas, fuzzy slippers, microwavable warmer-up-thingie and a pile of blankets. And a cup of tea that has been re-filled about 10 times.

Burrows are love.

I have started and finished two books since Thursday. I'm not a big chick-lit girl, but I thoroughly enjoyed both of these. They've both been on my shelf for some time and I have been reading murder mysteries instead (my genre of choice). I'm glad I changed directions this week.

The first one was Something Borrowed. I loved this book. Seriously loved. I laughed so hard, I related, I saw my friends in her friends, I wanted to be her friend. (....I saw some of me in her?? Just a little, not a lot. Honest. Well, not a WHOLE lot, anyway.) It was a book that I didn't want to put down - I wanted to read it straight through in one sitting (I managed to stretch it to two sittings) but at the same time I wanted it to last for a long time because it was such a fun read. For those who've said it is completely unrealistic and full of fake people....pffffft. I beg to differ. No, I don't have friends who jet to the Hamptons for the weekend, but somehow I can still relate quite easily. Rachel was my favorite character and I've heard the sequel (Something Blue) is more focused on Darcy, so while I'll read it, I'll probably not enjoy it quite as much. No, I'm not giving you the link to that one - if you read about it, it'll spoil the first one. yeah, yeah, I know you can find the link on your own....but don't do it.

This snippit of a review for Something Blue does give me hope...."...Even though I loved 'Something Borrowed', I really hated Darcy Rhone, and when I found out 'Something Blue' was all about her, I was very skeptical. Much to my surprise though, I LOVED this book. I think I may even like it better than the first one! " Hmmm....Maybe I'll pick it up sooner than I had thought.

The second book I read was an older one, but also very good, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Most of you are probably familiar with it. It is good. Yes, it is written for a much younger crowd, but I enjoyed it anyway! Most days I'm 26, somedays I'm 12, occasionally I'm 41. While reading this I was 16. And it was fun. I was able to relate to each of the 4 girls at some point in the book. Highly recommended - a fun, VERY quick read.

Last week I read a Cormac McCarthy book, The Road. It was great too - although TOTALLY different genre. I read it in one evening while hubbs read another McCarthy book. He and I had seen No Country for Old Men (Coen brothers movie based on the McCarthy book by the same name) when it opened in theaters a couple months ago and we really liked it. I'd heard good things about The Road. I wasn't disappointed. Great read. Heartbreaking, yes. Heartwarming, yes. It is about a father and son traveling "the road" in a post-apocalyptic world. A story of true love.

..

Now, I'm back to my normal genre. In about 45 minutes I'm starting The 5th Horseman. If it is anything like normal Patterson books, I should be reporting back here by the end of the day. On the other hand....maybe I'll crawl out of my burrow and see what the world holds. Nah.....
